Memory: Christmas Morning on her own
Earned: Start

"Untrue," said Jackie. "You're welcome at the North Pole any time. Santa'd be thrilled to see you again. He's really missed you."
"I noticed." Every Christmas since she'd left The Junior Super Patriots, West Coast Division, she'd gone to sleep on Christmas Eve in a dingy, undecorated apartment, and woken up to tinsel, tree, and piles of presents. There were years when selling the things that Santa gave her was all that let her keep eating. She'd never seen the Big Guy herself on those Christmas mornings, but she'd been leaving him thank you notes since the first year. "Guess I never dropped off the nice list."
-- From Velveteen vs. the Ordinary Day

As stated above, this memory is implied. It comes from the period in Vel's life where she was trying to create a normal identity away from the Super Patriots Inc. From what we know in other parts of Vel's story, this was mostly working minimum wage jobs, trying to get community college classes, and being harassed (and occasionally sabotaged) by the Marketing Division so she'd be a good little bunny and come back.

It also means Vel didn't spend much time with her superpowered friends, Jackie Frost and Princess. And visiting Winter's Country, which is where the magical North Pole/Christmas Village exists. Santa was also one of Vel's friends, though less in the 'other teenager to hang out with' and more in the 'grandfatherly figure who makes sure she's okay and gives her cocoa and cookies when she's upset'.

So, even though Vel was trying to cut all ties to her superpowered identity, Santa still sent her gifts every year and put up her tree. And Vel secretly appreciated it, because she was pretty damn lonely. I figure the gifts were a mix of things Vel needed and things she wanted but couldn't afford (and those would usually go to pay bills, but...). Santa might also throw in a few toys, even if Vel was a retired superhero, since she used her powers around the house. (Technically, Vel could probably draw a face on all her cleaning supplies and animate them directly, but that never seems to occur to her. Instead, she uses animated teddy bears to fetch her a soda and put away her laundry.)

What Vel Learns
* Santa Claus. Vel has no reason to see him as mythological, since he's not in her world, and she knew him directly. Sieh wonders if he's a god when Vel tells him about him, but Vel doesn't think too much of what he is. He's Santa.
* The basic idea of Christmas. It's a winter holiday, you exchange gifts and put up decorations, and it's normally a time for family/friends. Also kids get gifts from Santa.
* Basics of Vel's life as a mundane. She lived in a dingy probably-studio and she had trouble paying for the necessities of life.
* She had friends, but things were complicated with them at the moment.
