Memory: Finding the Phantom Doll
Earned: Professor Endboss's Robot Game
Form: A water gun (2/3 uses)

Velveteen (who had long since run out of any cookies to toss, and was now reduced to tossing the memory of cookies that had been eaten years before) was on the verge of suggesting that they turn around when one of the Princess’s songbirds came flying out of a cloud bank, wings beating frantically as it tried to stay aloft. It looked exhausted. Velveteen understood the feeling.
-- Velveteen Versus Jolly Roger

This might seem like a follow-up to the last memory, and Joy will take it as such, but it skips over Important Sig-Neg Memory. And Velveteen is too busy being violently airsick in this memory to pick up on emotional fallout. She might notice that she feels less drained than she did in the previous memory, so Joy might figure she had been right about the Nevada sun.

When finding a magical pirate superhero, you can't exactly follow a map, so the course Vel got from Vegas is (of course) 'second star to the right, straight on til morning'. So, Princess takes them on a magic carpet ride over the Pacific at night. On the carpet is Vel (who is throwing up everything she's eaten in the last two years), Princess (who is standing at the front of the carpet in a ballgown and looking like that one scene from Titanic) and Victory Anna, a cranky British woman who is dressed like she was going to a steampunk convention. Beside them, Jackie is keeping up by making ice bridges in midair.

Victory Anna notes that if Vel can aim her airsickness, it could be a new superpower, and suggests targeting the seagulls. She also shoots down a few herself using her ray gun until Princess tells her to stop, and seriously y'all, she's going to turn this carpet around if y'all don't stop distracting her while she's trying to steer. Vel notes that Victory Anna is a former supervillain, which explains why she is so perky about flying through the air and blasting the wildlife.

This continues for a while, with the occasional interruption as they surprise boats and planes, because even in a world with superheroes, you don't expect to see four of them cruising around the Pacific. Eventually one of Princess's scouts (aka birds she recruited) tells her it spotted the Phantom Doll. She lets the bird rest on her, and then alerts her passengers. Jackie does a roller-coaster like dive on her ice bridge, and then Princess pulls the carpet into a dive and Vel gets terrified by her friend's flying abilities (even Victory Anna is a bit unnerved by the drop).

What Joy Learned
She hates flying. She gets violently ill when flying. It could just be Princess's flying, though, since someone forgets that not everyone has perfect grace and balance. Joy can also probably ID Victory Anna as her dimensionally-displaced roommate from the previous memory, since she looks like she fell out of the past. (Well, a past.)

But, if the previous memory is right, and Sparkle Bright is a free agent, why isn't she here? Are they still fighting?

This also undoes any supposition on Joy's part about why she felt like crap in the previous memory, since she's going to assume these two happened in closer order than they did.

Effects
+ Knowledge of magical realms and pocket dimensions, which need things like intent and believing in oneself to find them.

The directions to the Phantom Doll probably would have worked over any coastline, with any star, because that's the difference between straight-out magic in Vel's world and all the other kinds of unlikely powers. Jolly Roger and Princess (and the seasonal heroes like Jackie, to some extent), are powered by belief in the concepts of their powers. There's a reason that Princess has a business arrangement with Disney: the more little girls want to be fairy-tale princesses and have a fixed idea of what one of those is, the more power Princess has.

This is probably useful knowledge in Aather, since the Personae seem to work in similar manners.

+ ... Knowledge of Victory Anna will probably help with future encounters with Professor Endboss, since, you know, mad scientist gadgeteer. Torrey prefers rayguns to robots, though.
