Memory #24: Meeting Polychrome and Victory Anna

(Form: Come in the form of a Necco wafer in your team's color. Eat them. One use.

So, Vel wakes up feeling like shit. Two women are talking about her, one sounded decidedly British mad scientist. (Joy will realize this is Torrey aka Victory Anna, but this is Velveteen's first encounter with Torrey.) Vel recognizes the second voice, which is enough to get her to open her eyes.

It's Sparkle Bright. Apparently Vel asked Princess to contact her. Sparks isn't too happy with Vel, hence the hauling her unconscious off to a secret lair, but apparently enough to let her talk. Or interrogate her. You know, same thing.

Vel points out that she's here because someone -- probably Torrey -- tased her unconscious. And that she's looking for 'points of divergence', and suspects it has something to do with her and Sparks. This gets her attention.

Vel revealed that she's from an alternate timeline. Joy knows what Vel gives as the difference, but can probably infer that: this isn't her Sparkle Bright, and that this one did about the same thing as she did in her timeline, which was get the hell out at age 18 and be declared effectively a superviillain.

This seems to convince alt!Sparks, though Torrey still wants to shoot Vel. Torrey is a violent person, and Joy has no clue how they became roommates; perhaps she is also an alternate universe counterpart.

Alt!Sparks is going by Polychrome, and is rocking black instead of white, albeit still with rainbow touches because that's how supers roll here. Polychrome asks Vel why she left. Vel tells her 'you slept with my boyfriend, then physically attacked me, so I decided I needed to leave'.

Polychrome breaks into tears, and Torrey threatens Vel for making Polychrome cry. Polychrome tells her in this timeline, she didn't beat the snot out of her Vel, because she was too heartbroken after what Marketing told her. Vel is confused, and Polychrome looks surprised, then bursts out laughing, and comments that Vel really never knew, and she'd never been sure her Vel hadn't been lying.

Then she tells Vel that Marketing told her her Vel was going to the tabloids about her unless they paid her. Vel wonders how Yelena could believe that, and Polychrome counters that it was the same way that Vel thought she'd slept with Aaron. Also, Polychrome (and presumable Sparkle Bright) is gay; Torrey is being the way she is (in part) because she's her girlfriend.

Oh. Well, that makes a lot more sense.

Joy has most of this information if she's taken her 'reconcile with Sparkle Bright' memory, but this gets her a lot more information about how alternate timelines work.
